Tyre Sheen, our perfect, no-fling tyre shine product

28 May 2010

Back in 2003 we began our quest to formulate a great tyre shine product. With over 300 tyres on all the cars in our collection a good tyre product has always been high on the agenda. We are never happy to just make something like all the rest and gave our chemists a list of things that we disliked and needed to be addressed before we could sign off on the product. 7 years and 43 batches later they had done it! Our perfect tyre sheen.

Used on all our cars, Nicle showing how it works on the DJR RS 500 Sierra.

THE GOOD STUFF ABOUT OUR TYRE SHEEN

Self cleaning, so you do not have to buy another product every time you clean the tyre. We say to wash the tyre first time around, to remove any other old tyre shine products or built up grime and dirt, but from there just use it by itself. Even on the older, crappy looking tyres will show up a better looking finish. It even removes browning on older tyres and cleans white walls quite nicely, just spray on and wipe them down with a separate cloth cleaning the white wall surface. Something we have been using to great effect on Dad's old hot rods. We did find that super old (15 years plus) and yellowing white walls don't really clean well unless you use a solvent on them, something that is not really great for your tyre sidewall... But for any newer ones, ours works a treat.

Gives the tyre a perfect, new and natural looking sheen. We really do not like super glossy tyres as to us it looks very artificial, not to mention cheap and tacky. To get the tyre looking like it is new is what were after from day one. If anything the way to describe it is as a mid shine, not super glossy, but not a matt finish either.

A nice mid sheen is what we were after, as can be seen on the racing dunlop tyre.

Will not fling off your tyre onto your cars paint. Without doubt one of the biggest concerns we have had with so many of the different tyre products out there. Anything with any sense of longevity seems to do this. Ours loves rubber, so it just happily stays on the tyre keeping the tyre looking good for longer, whilst cutting down your cleaning time as you're no longer going to be wiping down any marks on the sides of your car.

Contains specialised oils to help protect and preserve. With the amount of cars we have in the collection, it is important to have a good formulation that is not going to wreck any of the tyres.  Having to replace them every few years is not worth it no matter how good the tyre shine product is!  We found others out there are full of ingredients that are actually detrimental to the sidewalls of your tyre, drying the rubber out, cracking it and then making it dangerous to use.  We have put in some special oils to make sure this will not happen and another ingredient to make sure these oils stay on the rubber, not flinging off the tyre onto the sides of your car.

Our Muffy Sponge is a perfect applicator,  just ask us and we will send one to you.

Will not affect any painted, chromed, polished or alloy wheels. Very important again for us with the dollar value of and with the variety of the wheels we have on the cars. Having something that wrecks any type of finish is very anti car care and not at all what we are about!

It is a very long lasting tyre shine product. Making something that would not be gone in a week or after the first shower of rain was important. Hence it is water resistant and is still there even after multiple washings. Likewise it will not wash off at the first sight of rain. We did a lot of testing in the hectic monsoon like wet season at the beginning of this year and found the product in the wettest of conditions will last weeks, not hours or minutes very different to anything else we put it up against. In normal dry conditions it just keeps on going and going and going! We have found different types of tyres give slightly different results, so there is no set scale in longevity other than it out performs everything else we (and others who tested it) have tried before.

Quick drying and easy to use; something that is essential with all our products. Time is an important asset and if you're like us you are after more time to enjoy driving your car than cleaning it. Likewise, No one likes hard to use products and we had to make it as simple as possible to use and get a perfect finish every time.

USING TYRE SHEEN

First time out, give the tyre a wash with our Auto Body Gel and a scrubbing brush. This cleans any dirt or other tyre shines off from the rubber. Then wait for it to dry and spray the Tyre Sheen into a suitable tyre applicator and apply evenly to the tyre. (We are using our sacrifical Muffy Sponges currently, they work amazingly well. It dries in a few minutes, so no more leaving the car parked for a few hours or overnight waiting for the product to dry on the tyre.

If your after a slightly glossier finish just spray it direct onto the tyre, but wipe down your wheels with a clean cloth afterwards, to get rid of any over spray. It leaves a real nice, even finish, making for a very professional looking job.
Another couple of tips; if you're spraying it on, wet around the ground at the base of the tyre first, so you don't get the stain the ground. Also don't for get to roll the car forward a few feet, so you get the bottom part of the tyre as well. ;)
