Nikon SuperGP Australian Legends - Thursday 22nd Oct 2009

Posted Friday 23rd October 2009

It has been a whirlwind few days at Bowden's Own HQ this week as we prepared for the Super GP. Our team has been working right into the night, every night, to get these legends of motor racing history ready to hit the track. Normally it is months worth of work to get all these cars ready for the race track, but we had to do it in just 4 days which is a massive job! Every day we are more and more thankful for the Sound Tour as we already had all the engines in good working order so that we could fire them up for this massive event just a few weeks ago.

Yesterday we had our first run of the weekend. Thankfully we were given some track time on Thursday as we needed this time to test run the cars and clean out all the bugs that creep up. And we are so greatful such legendary dirvers were able to make it to the even at such short notice to drive our cars, because without them, we would not be able to get all the issues noted and fixed so quickly.

4 of our cars ran like a dream and stayed on track for the whole 25min session. Jim Richards JPS 1986 635 BMW driven by Jim himself, Moffat's GTHO Phase 3 driven by John French, Dick Johnson's Greens Tuf driven by Steven Johnson, and Beechey's Monaro driven by Colin Bond (who said that the car was a real beast but a little twitchy due to the massive amount of power this car has).

Unfortunately, I did not make it out of the pits in the Geoghegan Super Falcon due to some clutch issues which have since been fixed. Chris took to the track with the Moffstang and had a great run until the shifter snapped in his hand on the second last lap - something we are told happened a few times when Moffat drove it back in the day. Bob Morris drove Brock's '78 A9X Torana before he found water in the Webber carbies. Dick Johnson drove his Tru Blu Falcon which has no oil pressure so it sadly has been retired. James Brock drove his late father's VL Commodore was running well until he experienced an oil leak which has raised our suspicions of further engine trouble so it may be receiving a heart transplant later tonight so it can make it on the track for the weekend. Kevin Bartlett was unavailable yesterday to drive his Channel 9 Camaro, however he will be out on the track today.

If you are able to get to the track this weekend, we would love to see you. Come say hi to us in the pits or at our merchandise marquee located next to the Banana Boat tent in the merchandise area.

We hope to see you there!

Love your car,

Dan Bowden
