How to use your Bowden's Own 6 Pack
What is it?
Our Bowden's Own 6 Pack is a unique pack of some of our favourite products, inspired by our passion for The Great Race (Bathurst).
Your car will love these six custom-brewed, fun and quality blends from our Aussie car care range. This 6 Pack of products, including the box, have been proudly made right here in Australia, supporting numerous local industries and importantly helping create more jobs for Australians.
In this guide we'll run through the products in your 6 Pack, how to use them and what order to use them in.
The Bowden's Own 6 Pack is exclusive to Repco and is only available in limited numbers.
The contents in the 6 Pack are:
- Wax Wash Race Edition - A limited edition Carnauba Wax infused wash, with a subtle craft beer fragrance.
- Wheely Clean - With the new Löstank Berry fragrance.
- Bugger Off - For removing those kamikaze bug splatters, with the sweet Mount Pineorama fragrance.
- Orange Agent - An awesome pH neutral all purpose cleaner, with those sublte orange notes you expect and love.
- Fully Slick - Our great new formula, with the sweet notes of North Queensland Mangoes.
- Naked Glass - A limited edition Ginger Ninja formula, with a hint of ginger beer.
Mountain Straight - Wheels and tyres
Depending on what type of wheels and brake pads you have on your car, you can use either the Wheely Clean if you enjoy driving (like us) a little spiritedly and make a bit of brake dust, or, Orange Agent if it's more just built up dirt and grime.
Half fill your Wheels bucket with water, then add a capful of Wax Wash and froth the mixture up inside the bucket with a short blast from the pressure washer. This ensures the Wax Wash is well mixed, and creates a lovely micro emulsion of suds that smells like a fresh craft beer!
With your Wheels bucket set up next to the wheel with your brushes handy in the bucket, spray the Orange Agent or Wheely Clean directly onto the wheel. Leave it to dwell for only a short time (30 seconds or so), then scrub the wheel with the Little Chubby brush. If you'd like to clean the inside barrel of the wheel, use the Flat Head brush and get in there right the way around the inside of the wheel barrel. Rinse the brushes out in the Wheels bucket as needed.
For the smaller or intricate areas around the wheels (wheel nuts etc), use the Nuts and Guts brush from the Foursome brush set, which is available seperately.
Once the wheel is clean, wet the tyre, then spray Orange Agent directly onto the rubber, and leave it to penetrate for around 5-10 seconds. Grab your Little Chubby Brush and scrub the tyre, then rinse thoroughly with your hose or pressure washer.
Once the wheels and tyres have been cleaned, you can spray a few sprays of Wet Dreams straight onto the wheel face, then pressure wash or hose it off, to add some super easy protection and a lovely shine in one step.
The Cutting - Washing & rinsing
After cleaning the wheels, the next step is to wash the car. If you have the Snow Blow Cannon and any of our snow foams already, and would like to start with that, then you most certainly can do that as your pre wash.
If you have a pressure washer, we recommend to give the vehicle a good pressure wash down first, to help remove any heavier dirt and grime before you start washing - this reduces the chance of inflicting wash induced swirl marks in the paint. If you don't have a pressure washer, use the "Jet" setting or similar on your hose (as we have in this article and video), and rinse the car down thoroughly.
Grab a bucket or two of your choosing - we have a Wash and Rinse bucket available separately if you wish (as well as a Great Barrier Thingy to put in the bottom of the bucket to stop dirt from swirling back up into your clean wash water). We strongly recommend 2 buckets - one for clean rinse water, and one for your wash water. The idea here is to dip your wash tool into the wash water, wash a section of the car, then bring your wash tool back into the clean rinse water and ring it out in there, before going back into the wash water and washing the next section, to stop dirt and contamination going into your wash water as much as possible.
Into your wash bucket, 3/4 fill it with water, then add 1 capful (30ml) of Wax Wash and froth it up with either the pressure washer, or the hose, so it gets a nice head of suds, and to release that craft beer smell.
Dip your wash tool into the wash suds (we're using a Wash Pillow here) and let the suds soak into it for a couple seconds, then starting at the roof of the car, gently wash in a back and forth motion, then side to side so that you don't miss any spots. We prefer not to go in circles when washing - not because it will create swirl marks, but because when you do small circles, there's always a bit that you miss. When you wash up and down, then back and forth, you are guaranteeing that you don't miss any spots.
After washing the first section, dip your mitt into the clean rinse water and thrash it about and/or squeeze the suds out so that any dirt or grime leaves the wash tool, then dunk it back into the wash suds and do the next section of the vehicle, leaving the lower dirtier sections till last.
Once you've washed the whole car, rinse the suds off thoroughly (NOTE: if you're washing in the sun, rinse the suds off periodically - don't let them dry on the paint).
Once you're done, empty the buckets and give them a good rinse out. You don't want to be storing any wash water for use later!
Quarry Corner - Drying safely
Now it's time to dry the vehicle safely. Although not all the following products are included in The 6 Pack, we'll show you the easiest way you can dry your vehicle safely.
The Big Green Sucker with Boss Gloss:
Spray 6-8 sprays of Boss Gloss into each side of The Big Green Sucker and start drying your vehicle from the top, working your way down the car, drying any glass that may be in the sun first, to avoid getting water spots.
The Dipper - Kamikaze bug splatter
There are a couple of ways you can use the Bugger Off. The first way is to spray it over the front of the car where the bugs are, leave it to dwell for 30 seconds or so, then pressure wash it off, taking the bugs with it. You can also spray the Bugger Off over the bugs, then cover the whole car in snow foam - the snow foam slows down the reaction of the Bugger Off, giving you enough time to snow foam the whole car, then rinse it off. You never want the product to dry on the paint.
The second way you can use it, is to wash and rinse the whole car, then spray Bugger Off onto any bug splatter that remain, leave it to dwell for around 30 seconds, then with either one of our safe microfibre wash tools, or our specially designed bug slatter cloth the Debugger, dip either of these into a clean wash suds solution, then gently wash the bug affected areas and rinse thoroughly. After rinsing, dry the area safely.
Forrest's Elbow - Engine bay cleaning
Spray some Orange Agent all purpose cleaner into a brush (like a Nuts & Guts brush from our Foursome brush set, which is sold seperately), or cloth like our Dirty Deeds cloth and agitiate all over the area you want to clean. Then, rinse the area down with the hose, or gently wipe the areas with a damp Dirty Deeds cloth, making sure the Orange Agent never dries, especially on rubber hoses - where the technique is to spray on, quickly agitiate and then rinse off right after, one hose at a time.
Once all done, get a small air blower and use it with a few dry microfibre cloths (again we use the Dirty Deeds cloths) to wipe down and remove the water, especially if it's sitting in engine crevices like around the manifold.
Conrod Straight - Protecting your paint with Fully Slick
On the back straight now! Time to protect the paint with some Fully Slick. Fully Slick is a spray on, synthetic protective sealant that leaves your paint with a beautifully slick and glossy finish. It's actually the slickest and smoothest feeling of anything in our range, which car enthusiasts will love!
With the car out of the sun and the panels cool to touch, spray 6-8 sprays of Fully Slick into a folded Drop Bear or Big Softie cloth. Apply to one section of the car at a time (a section might be a quarter of a bonnet, a quarter panel, half a door etc). After applying, immediately buff over the section you just applied it to with a second clean and dry Drop Bear or Big Softie cloth. For the next section, only spray 1-2 more sprays of Fully Slick into the cloth, and use that side of the cloth as your lead application cloth for the rest of the car, adding 1-2 more sprays for each section as you go.
Finish line - Glass cleaning
Lightly mist 1-2 sprays of Naked Glass into the green side of an Inta-Mitt cloth and apply to the glass. DO NOT drench the cloth - a spray or two is always enough. Begin cleaning the glass back and forth, then up and down, ensuring good coverage. Be sure to get right into the corners of the glass and the windscreen too.
Turn the Inta-Mitt to the low drag purple side, and buff off any residue to a perfect finish. If your cloth is wet from product, or you begin to notice slight streaking, flip the Inta-Mitt inside out and add only 1 more spray. It's imperative that the cloth is dry to achieve that perfect, streak free finish. Never spray Naked Glass into the purple side of the Inta-Mitt.
We say to spray into the Inta-Mitt and apply so you don't get over spray everywhere, saving you time in cleaning up later. Only if the glass is really, really dirty is it a good idea to spray a little bit extra directly onto the glass. If you do use this method, spray on and leave it for 5-10 seconds to begin to clean deeper, then wipe off thoroughly using the technique described above.
