Ford Total Performance Day

8 August 2011

The guys at Pacific Ford Maroochydore really deserve a medal for the Total Performance car show they run every year.  I do not know any other dealership who would clean out over 130 cars from their dealership lot to make way for 120 amazing performance Fords from their customers garages, for a one day car show. It is a stellar success as can be seen by the thousands of people who come to check out the cars on display.

It is strongly supported by FPV, with head honcho Rod Barrett making the trek up to Qld with the latest muscle to come out of the FPV skunk works.  This year?s showing was something quite special as it was the first official unveiling of the new production version of the FPV GT ?Black Edition?, just 117 of them are to be made for Australia and when you see it in the flesh, it is pretty impressive! Our girls Casey and Carolyn did the honours of pulling off the sheet as Rod Barrett ran through the multitude of changes from this new special edition GT, making it a pretty good value buy for just $75k.

Qld based V8 Supercar team the Stone Brothers made an appearance as well, with Ross Stone and his two drivers Alex Davidson and Shane Van Gisbergen coming up for the day. They are all diehard petrol heads as I found from my talk with both Ross and Alex. We have supported this event from day one, with a number of different Fords coming out of our shed each year to delight the crowds.

This year?s car was a special one for Ross, who last saw it the year he left school in 1969. It was Paul Fahey?s 1966 Shelby Trans Am Mustang, which won a few championships in its time racing in New Zealand. By the initial shocked look on his face and the huge grin, I knew he remembered it well, he took Shane aside and showed him the car, before we had a chance to talk with him about it.

Fahey was the number one team in this era and his Mustang was as good as it got, something we know motivated a number of drivers from the day including Jim Richards, who always wanted a team as good as Paul Fahey! His brother Jim Stone worked on another Shelby Trans Am car in that period and Ross fondly remembers having to polish it?s magnesium wheels.

He was delighted in the cars current condition, which he mentioned to us and others when he gave his talk over the loud speakers. Dad (David) later dragged Ross outside the check his sidevalve, Ford Ardun headed J2 Allard, while I had a quick chat to Alex Davidson, letting him know that we have his grandfathers Lex Davidson?s old Holman and Moody big block Galaxy in the shed, ?Big Red? .He was a little bit chuffed to know it is still about and in Qld, I think we might have to get it running again and put him out for a few laps, let him see how a real muscle car is to drive!

So yet again, the day was a huge success a BIG thanks to all those who came and passed on the great comments about our car care products, from what I could make out it was close to 90% of the cars on show using our gear, fantastic!!
