Nikon SuperGP Australian Legends - Sunday 25th Oct 2009

26 October 2009

What a weekend we have had here at Bowden’s Own! The Nikon SuperGP is almost over for 2009 – now it is time to pack up and move all our cars back up to the Sunshine Coast. Yesterday morning was to be the last time the Australian Legends would be driving together on the Surfers Paradise track – hopefully only for 2009 as we hope to return again next year. It was an absolutely amazing experience driving the Moffstang next to my brother Chris in the Geoghegan Super Falcon. And I can now confirm that the Super Falcon is that little bit faster than the Moffstang. The boys did a great job making sure the Super Falcon made it out onto the track to put on a show for the Sunday crowd.

All the cars ran without a problem today. Dick Johnson reckoned he gave Greens Tuf everything it had on the final day as he relived old memories fighting for front position against Jim Richards in his '86 JPS 635 BMW. It was a moment to remember when I saw both Dick and Jim speed past me. The whole weekend was full of incredible experiences and it was an honour to drive alongside these Australian motor racing history legends.
It is obvious these cars are not made to go slow as all engine temperatures sky rocketed during our parade lap lead by Colin Bond in Beechey’s Monaro. James Brock even ran out of fuel as he waited to enter the pits at the end of the lap.
Dad sat alongside Dick Johnson in Greens Tuf for the final lap of the day which was a very special moment for him as well as the whole team and I am sure the rest of the Nikon SuperGP crowd. Dad is so proud he can share his passion with the Australian public and that something he loves so dearly can bring so much happiness to the motor racing fans.
Thank you to all the organizers of the Nikon SuperGP, as well as Dick Johnson, Jim Richards, Colin Bond, John French, Kevin Bartlett, James Brock and Bob Morris. We had an incredible weekend, one we hope to repeat again next year.
We have had a very full on few days and it does not stop now as we prepare to go to Melbourne for the Car Goodies Day this Saturday 31st October closely followed by the Complete All Ford Day at Homebush in Sydney where we will be bringing the GTHO Phase IV. If you are around, be sure to come check it out. More information about these events can be found on our events page.
